Summary ~ In this article the Chinese Daily is talking about the 14th Dalai Lamas' statements that he made while traveling in the US. They are sure that he is only trying to defile the Chinese justice system by urging the government of China to to stop the suppression of the people in Tibet. They also think that the Dalai Lama is in some way trying to 'sabotage' the 2008 Olympic Games after he supported them at first.
Reactions ~
- How does this article relate to one of the world history themes? It relates most to the theme "Impact of interaction among and within major societies." It relates to this because while the Dalai Lama is in the US reacting and answering reporter questions the Chinese are back in China still suppressing the people who live in Tibet.
- Evaluate the 'Historical Background' of the Issue. The reason that Tibet has been under close watch by China is because on March 14th they arrested criminal suspects that were accused of terrorist plotting. Also the Dalai Lama has always supported the Olympic Games but, still thinks that China should release the prisoners being detained because of that terrorist plot.
- Identify the Point of View of the Article. The China Daily is writing this article.
- Because the government in China is very controlling of it's people you might not be getting the whole truth. They could be trying to make the Dalai Lama look bad to get their Chinese people to trust their government more then a religious, peaceful man. Also they use very biased words such as 'spewing', 'rumors', 'violent, and 'accusations'.
- I would like to hear from a Tibeten who was maybe a friend or family member of the detained prisoners. They could give an entirely different and perhaps true statement of what they think really happened to their loved ones.
- I think that this is really horrible. If you read the article it is completely swaying towards the Chinese government. You really can see how much their government in China tries to control the media themselves and block out every opinion that is not up to the Chinese standard.
