Italy Recalls Tainted Mozzarella

I. Italy Recalls Tainted Mozzarella,Friday, 28 March 2008, www.bbc.com,http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/europe/7318391.stm

II. Earlier in the week one of Italy's main products was found to have toxins in it. This product was Italian Buffalo Mozzarella. Officials in UK say that there was no immediate risk with the Mozzarella and the cheese is no longer banned in France. Scientists tested the cheese to find that it had high levels of Dioxin in it and could only be harmful in mass consumption. Italian foreign minister said that they country was " taking the steps agreed with the European Union to withdraw from the market products that do not comply with standards." If this was not found, the excessive Dioxin could have lead to cancer. Italian government has claimed to have traced the farm source that produced the milk and has cut off the milk supply from that farm. The United Kingdom Food Industry has said that they are not yet aware of any contaminated Mozzarella being distributed and are working on finding out if there is any. It is now believed that the cause of the taint is from illegal dumping of toxic waste.

III.
A) This relates to the AP World theme of impact of interaction among and within major societies. This relates to this theme because the Mozzarella is being distributed around Europe and the toxins in the cheese is affecting the nations.
B) Buffalo Mozzarella Cheese has been a hugely distributed product out of Italy. Italy produces a total of 33,000 tonnes of cheese each year.
C) This article was written by an outsider because it was written by a British person writing about Italy. Although the information achieved is probably 99.9% definitely accurate we can not be totally sure.
D) This article should be taken with a little caution because nations are always trying to compete with each other and this writer may be trying to expose a slight flaw by another nation. Although it may not seem like any indication of bias there may be a little bit in the article.
E) I would like to hear from the point of view of anyone who had tried the cheese. I would like to see this view because of how they feel about the situation. Also the view of the farmers who had produced the cheese. I would like to know if it was an accident or what really happened.
F) I am very surprised to see that a nation did not go through a better screening process on one of its more prominent products. Although they did a very good job cleaning up the mess that was made I believe they should have taken more steps to prevent this and I hope they can prevent this in the future.

i can't believe that people could die and get cancer from cheese. I think that this horrible that you could be eating mozzerela sticks and then 3 years later that you obtained cancer just because you had a few to many mozzerela sticks. Unbelievalable that this is only being found now.

Hahahahahha. When i read this article I laughed! I just wish i had found it first because it seems like a fun article to do. I thought it was good because...who thinks about getting cancer from mozzarella? I also would have liked to see what group of people got sick the most from the cheese..whether the elderly, the young, middle aged..etc etc. nice job.
