Hamas to Arab States: Back Resistance

I. Hamas to Arab States: Back Resistance, JPost, May 28, 2008 http://www.jpost.com/servlet/Satellite?cid=1206632356894&pagename=JPost%2FJPArticle%2FShowFull

II. At a Hamas- organized rally in Gaza, Hamas rulers had asked the Arab states to get rid of their ties with Israel, and instead pick up arms against it. They believe that Israel is not working for peace, and that only using violence against them will stop them. In 2002, Saudi Arabia proposed a peace treaty with Israel to give back the lands they had taken in the Six Day War, allow the creation of a Palestinian state with Jerusalem as the capital, and a solution to the refugee problem, which Israel rejected. They are now thinking about brining back this offer. At the end, they used children to try and encourage the Arab states to ally with Gaza.

III. A.) This article relates to the AP World History Theme state- building, expansion and conflict because Gaza is trying to gain allies and make their side of the conflict stronger.

B.) All through 2006 to present day, Israel and Gaza have had a strong, violent conflict. The Six Day War was a war fought between Israel and Arab states such as Egypt, Jordan and Syria.

C.) This article was written by the Associated Press, so it could have been written by a variety of people,

D.) It seems that this article is written by someone who is pro- Gaza and Arab states, while disfavoring Israel. This is because they only use sources that say that Israel is not working for peace, but just keeps on attacking different states.

E.) One point of view that is definitely missing in the article is that of an Israeli leader, because all they give is viewpoints from Hamas and Arab leaders, and it would give insight on why Israel rejected the peace proposition, and how they are working for peace.

F.) I do not think that it will be helpful to the situation in the Middle East for everyone to ally against Israel, because they will just keep on fighting back, which will increase the retaliation more and more. Also, it seems that the Gaza and Arab leaders think that the Israeli’s don’t want peace and will just keep fighting no matter what.
