2. Summary
A suicide bomber of the Tamil Tigers, supposedly assassinated Sri Lanka's highways minister Jeyaraj Fernandopulle as he was opening a marathon on Sunday. The attack wounded 100 people and it killed 13. Jeyaraj was 55 when he died and he had quite a few body guards to protect him and yet he still died. Police suspect the bomber pretended to be a runner and attacked. Many people have been killed by suicide bombers as well as roadside bombers.
3. Reaction
A) The AP history theme that best fits this article would have to be state-building, expansion, and conflict because it has to do with a nationalist group trying to get what they want from Sri Lanka but they must resort to violence to achieve their goal.
B) The Tamil Tigers are a Tamil nationalist organization that has been attacking the Sri Lankan government since the 1970s. They’ve been doing this in order to create a separate Tamil state in the north and east of Sri Lanka. They are proscribed as a terrorist organization by 31 countries.
C) The article was written by Amal Jayasinghe. I believe that this person is a male and by his/her name (s)he may be Sri Lankan or from another foreign country. Which depending on where (s)he’s from, they could be an insider or an outsider.
D) The author is showing bias because (s)he only says what the Tigers did wrong. They don’t explain why they do what they do or why they’re not allowed to have their own state. Or even why the Sri Lankan government won’t let them have their own state.
E) One point of view that is missing is from one of the Tamil Tigers. Then you would know if they acually did it and how they feel about the issue they are dealing with.
F) This is very interesting to hear. The Tigers have been attacking Sri Lanka since the 1970s and yet Sri Lanka won’t let them have a state of their own. People keep dying for such a stupid reason. If the Sri Lankan government just let the Tigers have their own state there wouldn’t be such unnecessary bloodshed.
