A total of seven British soldiers of the frontline in the Iraqi War have been killed, all leaving evidence of the same bullet markings, and it is almost certain that these bullets were shot from the same gun, thought to be a sniper. U.S. arms manufactured the gun, which was thought to be used, and Lake City Arsenal, an arms manufacturer, also produced the fired bullets. Fear has begun that this sniper is targeting British troops, only because it is know that this is enemy fire.

Reactions:

  • This article relates to the AP World History theme, impact of interaction among and within major societies. Because the British enemy is beginning to kill British troops, it is going to impact in something drastic by the side under attack.
  • Not much historical background can be given because the attacking enemy is unknown, but we do know that the shooter is from Iraq. So this can lead us to believe that an Iraqi soldier is firing at British soldiers because they are helping the U.S. win the war.
  • The point of view of this article is a female. She is most likely an insider who is British.
  • The author could be bias in that she seems to be against Iraq. She only tells us the story from the British’s side. Not even from an Iraqi civilian’s view, only because it would be nearly impossible to speak with an Iraqi soldier.
  • The point of view from an Iraqi civilian would be helpful in understanding if the Iraqi soldiers would purposely target British soldiers.
  • If Iraqi soldiers are firing at the British intentionally, than I think that is wrong. But then again, I also think that war is not the answer to our problems.

I really liked this article. Yes, it's hard to get an Iraqi resident's view on this situation because the reporter is from England. I also believe that's why they are attacking British soldiers because they are U.S. supporters. I believe the war in Iraq should stop. Too many people's lives are in danger.
