Summary: This article provided by the Viet Nam News was about prime minister Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung’s request for the U.S. Government to continue medical supplies for victims of Agent Orange. The prime minister is also vouching for HIV/AIDS support, and hopes for Vietnam to develop its own support program in the future. Dung wishes for trade relations to become stronger between the U.S. and Vietnam, especially in the health sector. He is pushing Vietnam and an important trading partner, saying that more Viet Nam goods are available in the U.S.
A) The AP World History theme that this article relates to is Creation, Expansion, and Interaction of Economic Systems, because it involves the interaction and expansion of Viet and American economies and trade/commerce.
B) Agent Orange is a chemical substance used in the War in Vietnam as biological warfare. It was sprayed across many areas of Vietnam and had deadly results. People are still being treated of this Agent Orange and the prime minister is requesting that the U.S. continue to supply medical supplies.
C) The author is most likely a Vietnamese male, and an outsider to the story, unless he knew or was related to someone affected by Agent Orange or HIV/AIDS.
D) There is much present bias in this document. Due to the author’s nationality, he claims the people affected by Agent Orange were “victims.” He also speaks highly of Vietnam’s economy and its benefits as a trade partner. He only used quotes involving success in Vietnam and the need for the U.S. to support HIV/AIDS.
E) To gain a full understanding of the situation at hand I would have to hear from a person in Vietnam cooperating with the U.S. on their effort to receive more medical supplies, because they would know how much or if at all the U.S. Gov. is willing to send over.
F) Although I’m sure Agent Orange and HIV/AIDS is a major problem for the health and well-being of Vietnamese citizens, I think the prime minister is also trying to pull off some marketing stunt with this desperate cause. He first talks about the problem at hand, then mentions that Vietnam should be trading more with the U.S.? The article provides almost no information on how the U.S. is going to handle this and if medical supplies will be supplied.

Nice article!!
I totally agree with you when the article stated that the Vietnam prime minister was more interested in the trading relations of the problem rather then the affect its having on Vietnamese citizens. I believe that the general well-being of average citizens is sadly not on the government's list of priorities. That needs to change.
Once again, good take on this article!!
I feel that the Prime Minister does care about the citizens, and he believes that by becoming trade partners that he can get medical supplies faster. He may also be trying to help Vietnam's trade relations with the rest of the world in the future.
