Since the Darfur conflict started in 2003, around 300,000 people have lost their lives and over 1 billion dollars have been spent in efforts to try to aid this problem but it doesn't seem to be helping. Conditions have been getting worse for the Darfurians for over 3 years. The population of Darfur is
a whopping 4.27 million, a total of 2.45 million have been "displaced" by the fighting and constant conflict. Of the 30,000 UN- African Union peace keepers, only 9,000 peace keepers, most of them African themselves are now in Darfur. 300,000 dead, 2.45 million displaced, and only 9,000 peace keepers are basically Darfur summed up over the past years.

REFLECTION-
  • This topic could be based back to the theme of impact of interaction within societies. Statistically almost half the population has been affected by the fighting and if you trace it back far enough theres a good chance there is evidence of family ties to ever person who lost their lives to the Darfur genocide.
  • The basic reason for the mass fighting is that the natural resources of the area are slowly depleting and now murderous gangs are running loose with the lack of a government to stop them. Complete chaos is an evident result.
  • The article seems to be written by a person who was there when UN Secretary- General Ban Ki-moon, spoke about the setbacks and all the problems being faced. He also has to be educated and probably American to speak English that well in the article.
  • The author seems to agree with Ban considering the quote he used as the title (Darfur is in worse shape than four years ago) and also the word choice such as "extreme" "unacceptable" "suffering" and other examples
  • I think that its a complete disgrace that this problem is still continuing. It seems like people aren't doing the best they can to help the Darfurians. The people need assistance. In the article it explains how only 9,000 out of 30,000 UN peacemakers are in Darfur helping the cause which should act as a disgrace for the people. The human kind in general seems so ignorant to the Darfur conflict and all the problems being faced. The results of the inaction of the people are similar to the Nazi problem so many years ago. Now we look back on that period of time and wonder how it happened, when bad things happen, the good people did nothing.

i agree, the fact that this is still going on with no end in sight is disgraceful. for the past 3 years all thats been happening is the worsening of the situation and so far around 300,000 people have lost their lives. Civilians, women and girls are being targeted and around half the population have been forced to flee due to the violence.
