II. The president of Venezuela, Hugo Chavez, says that he is in full support of China on the issue of Tibet and the summer olympics. Many people have been protesting against the summer olympics. Hugo says that he believes Tibet is part of China. He also states that the United States wants to derail the olympics in Beijing.
Hugo also says that Venezuela and India both need to help problems in their nations, such as poverty. He states that the two nations will have better relations in the future.
III. a) This article relates to the AP World History theme of interaction among and within major societies because Venezuela interacts with China (on their support with Tibet) and with India(on forming better relations with them).
b) In the early 1900's, Tibet gained its independence from China (Tibet was part of China before). But in 1950, China conquered Tibet in the Chinese civil war. This summer the Summer Olympics are taking place in Beijing, China. There are many protesters against the games because they want China to free Tibet.
c) A Indian journalist is writing this article. He is therefore an outsider because he is not involved in the China-Venezuela topic in the article and an insider for the Venezuela-India part of the article.
d) This article may be skewed because it states that the U.S. is behind the derailment of the Olympic games, meanwhile he uses no evidence to back it up and gives no point of view from the United States.
e) A missing voice in this article would be one from the U.S. From their point of view, we can see if the U.S. was behind the derailment of the Olympics.
f) I think that what Hugo Chavez said was ridiculous. He was calling out the United States as ruining the Olympics. He doesn't use any evidence to back it up. He has done nothing to help China yet, and yet he is criticizing the United States.

Jay I did an article that was on the same topic, but a different source. It is amazing how different an article can be written in different places. This is a very important topic that affects the world in many different ways. Although the problem in Tibet is huge, the Olympic relay is also very important.
