Report: World ignoring Iraq Refugee Crisis

Summary: This article discussed the impacts of our war in Iraq. A man from Baghdad was interviewed and exclaimed that his homes were continuously being bombed and in fear or being murdered him and his family fled to Syria. Another woman tells how she was sexually assaulted and her husband was murdered so in fear of her own death and the death of her family members she was forced to flee from Baghdad. These people described accounts of seeing family members, neighbors, and other Baghdad citizens lying dead and mutilated on the streets. The article also tells what three options these people have. They can return home, move from home to home, or resettle elsewhere. What Americans think is happening in Iraq and other places in the Middle East may not necessarily be what is actually occurring. The IRC feels these refugees should be protected and provided with aid. The United States and other surrounding countries are working to Protect Iran as a whole from being in invaded with other terrorist that could one day pose a threat without focusing on what is going on within this country to all the people not fighting a battle against the U.S. but fighting a battle for their lives.

III. Reactions:

A) The AP World theme that this article would relate to would be Development and interaction of cultures. This is because these people are suffering this way because of the invasion the United States had on Iraq. And these people will not be given help because there is no government and government aid system in place in Iraq. So it is our responsible to counteract some of our negative actions and help these people in any way possible. Iraq can never be a strong and thriving country without all aspects of its country’s makeup being altered.

B) The history of this problem goes back to the war in Iraq and some of the reasons fro the United States invading Iraq. The U.S. invaded Iraq to take down the dictator and protect the people. We also did this because we feared they could be harboring weapons of mass destruction. So some of these problems with Iraq refugees could be linked back to our invasion. Although I’m sure we have had many more positive impacts on Iraq and in the long run this would have been the rights decision.

C) The person writing this article is someone who works for CNN. Therefore they are probably an American citizen and an outsider to this topic. However they interviewed Baghdad citizens therefore they have more insight to what is really happening in that country.

D) This article could be biased in the fact that only negatives of the Iraq war are being highlighted. After realizing that you could summarize that the person writing this article is against the war in Iraq. And that point of view has to be taken into consideration when analyzing this article for accuracy. However the accounts of this war given by Iraq citizens could be biased to they could exaggerate their stories to an extent because they were most likely against this war as well.

E) The point of view that is missing from this article and would be helpful to better analyze this situation would be a United States head General in Iraq. They could not only provided more accounts counteracting the Baghdad citizens accounts but also provide information on what positive impacts they have had in Iraq.

F) When I first read this article I was extremely surprised at what was going on in Iraq, I seriously had no idea that any of this was happening. On the news all you hear about is suicide bombings and army trucks being blown up, you never hear any negatives that the United States is having on Iraq. I believe that the news should discuss all aspects of what is going on in Iraq and not just cover one story of how bad and terrible Iraq citizens are. I think that the United States as well as other countries should step in and provide relief for these people.

However, this article does not change my belief that going into Iraq was a good idea. Many people may take this article as just another reason why the United States should pull out of Iraq. Some of these people do not realize how much we have helped them. and that yes it is a small improvement from their past but it is still an improvement. And if we pull out of Iraq now Iraq will fall to whatever strong dictator comes along next, and we could have more and more terrorist attacks, and more innocent Iraq citizens will be killed.
