Peace Deal

Summary: This article talks about the pros and cons of making a peace deal between Israel and Saudi Arabia. Recently, the initiator of this Arab plan, Riyadh, was playing the role of mediator in conflicts consisting of the conflict between Sudan and China, the fighting in Somalia, and the internal fighting in Palestine. It is said that Saudi Arabia is not working to their full potential to make this peace agreement progress. On the other hand, Saudis are saying that, “the main obstacle to peace is Israel’s actions and policies. A good reason that Saudi Arabia and Israel should join forces is Iran. This is because they are both concerned about Iran’s nuclear ambitions. Also, another reason that they should join forces is because Saudi Arabia has not followed the paths of other Gulf countries. This means that, “it allows some expressions of normalization with Israel, without establishing full diplomatic relations.” This could eventually lead to other Gulf countries making peace agreements due to the assumption that Saudi Arabia has a lot of influence on them.
How this relates to an APWH theme: This article relates to the ap world history theme impact and interaction among and within major societies. This is because these major countries are interacting and trying to make a peace deal which may in turn impact other major societies like the surrounding Gulf countries.
Historical Background: The conflicts between Saudi Arabia and Israel started with disputes over claims of the same area of land. This area of land was Palestine and was fought over by the Jewish and Arabs. Also, Saudi Arabia took the leadership role in an Arab and Muslim world that practiced radical anti-Israel traditions. However, they were both great U.S allies.
Point Of View: This article was probably written by an Israeli but I am not sure. This may have been written by an American or any other outside source due to the lack of bias. In the article there was an even amount of criticism from each country.
How the POV affects the article: In this article, there wasn’t much proof of bias. There was criticism from both Israel and Saudi Arabia towards the other. However, there was no dominant saying or phrase that would indicate any bias or favor of one country over the other.
Missing Voice: It would be helpful to hear from an Iranian civilian and how they think this peace agreement will affect them with their nuclear ambitions. They know that neither Israel or Saudi Arabia approve of these ambitions and if they join forces, what will they do to stop them. And also, it will make us ask what other great things could be done if they team up and go through with this peace agreement.
My reaction to this article: I thought that this article showed what an impact Israel and Saudi Arabia would cause not only with the other Gulf countries but with other peace agreements around the world. It really makes you think about what great things could be done and how we can help. This conflict between Israel and Saudi Arabia and their history with each other must be resolved and put in the past if they wish to make great things for the future. It seems as though the countries with ongoing conflicts are holding grudges, and here is a good example of what could have been or what can be if people would all come together and make great things happen.
