II. An Egyptian tabloid editor was arrested and sentenced to 6 months in prison for reporting on the Egyptian president Mubarak. The man who is being tried name is Ibrahim Eissa. He will post the bail money of 200 pounds. The government officials who have spoken about this say that this report is entirely false and it puts the “state at risk” and also “threatened” the country’s economy. They government official stated that the important investors withdrew there investments and the stock market was crushed. This caused up to $350 million to the Egyptian government. Mr. Eissa, the reporter, wonders in an interview if the verdict was legally or politically motivated. Many people including Amnesty international rights group disagreed with the guilty verdict.
III. A. I believe this article relates to the AP History Theme of cultural, religious, and intellectual developments. This is because this case would never happen in more civilized countries. In the United States if someone said the president was deathly sick they wouldn’t get arrested and definitely wouldn’t get jail time.
B. President Mubarak is getting very old now. He has ruled for more then a quarter century with know known successor. It is believed that his son will take over and this idea is greatly disliked. SO the faith in Egypt’s government will greatly drop once President Mubarak dies.
c. The point of view of this article is a male Egyptian who’s an outsider who doesn’t agree with the government.
d. This article should be approached with caution because it is written by a fellow journalist. The author brings in many facts about people who did not agree with the verdict he only obtained one man’s ideas on the case who supported the government compared too the opposition who had many voices in the article.
e. A major point of view in this article that would be greatly appreciated would be that of the president himself. This would be useful too see if the reporter was false in the first place and to c what his thoughts on the issue are because he is the only one, if even him, that is offended by this.
f. I believe that this problem is very unnecessary. A trial like this has to have another motivation besides legally. If not there is something wrong with Egypt’s laws. This case would never have happened in most countries. I can’t believe this is what Egypt is worrying about right now in times like this.
