II. Summary
On April 9th, Jack Cafferty made a remark on CNN that offended Chinese people everywhere. He commented that all Chinese people were "basically the same bunch of goons and thugs they've been for the last 50 years" and that all manufactured goods from China are "junk." This obviously angered people, and they demanded an apology, which they got. An apology was issued by CNN, but most do not believe it is sincere enough. Cafferty later claimed that the "goons and thugs" comment was about the Chinese government, which didn't help.

III. Reaction
a) This article relates most to the AP World Theme of impact of interaction among and within major societies, because two major societies might be separated due to an insult from one country about another. Hopefully, the comment made, and the offense taken can be put behind us, so that our relationship will remain constant.
b) On 4/9/08, Mr. Cafferty said his opinion about the Chinese products and people that really offended them. They demanded that both CNN and Cafferty apologized more sincerely.
c) This article is written from the standpoint of a Chinese insider (or so it seems), whose gender is unknown.
d) It seems as if this reporter was against CNN and Cafferty, because when he/she mentioned the explanation and apology, they put it in quotes, as if it was fake. Also, in the first sentence, the author said that both the man and the network were "failing to apologize for insulting remarks by one of its commentators." The words failing and insulting make it look like they are both evil and not right.
e) The person that wrote this article mainly got every side of the issue, even though they might have a bit more from China's government. The only people missing from the article were the manufacturers, that aren't really needed because the officials basically covered every base.
f) This is really wrong for Cafferty to do, and CNN to allow. I would also be offended, and angered because those comments are not acceptable at all. This kind of reminds me of the Imus situation from a little while back, which was also wrong. I would punish Cafferty somehow, like a break from television. It's fine to display your opinion, but news reporters definitely should not go that far. Mr. Jack Cafferty stepped over the line when he said those things, and I believe it is wrong.
