2.Summary:
There has been alot of fighting between the Turks and Kurds. After 8 days, the Turkish military chose to take their troops out of northern Iraq. This was mainly because of the United States warning Turkey to get out of Iraq. 24 Turkish soldiers and 243 Kurdish fighter were killed, and 126 caves, 290 hide-outs, 12 command centers, and 59 anti-aircraft sites were destroyed.

3.Reactions:

A. I can relate this article with the AP theme, Impact of Interaction among and within major societies because two different cultures are fighting. Since they are in areas close to one another, it is easy to interact, but in a negative way. The Kurds in northern Iraq can easily get attacks from the Turkish military.

B. This conflict has been going on for years. A Kurdish group, called the P.K.K. has been fighting the Turkish military so that the Kurds in Turkey could have more rights. Because of this, the United States and Turkey became allies who fought against the Iraqi Kurds.

C. One of the authors, Sabrina Tavernise, is a female American journalist who is also the Istanbul (Turkey) bureau chief of The New York Times. The other author, Richard A. Oppel, is also an American journalist who has in the past, reported for The New York Times. Since they are both American, they are outsiders.

D. There seems to be some bias in the article. Since the United States are allies with Turkey, the authors are leaning more towards the side of the Turkish miliatary than the Kurds, since both authors are American.

E. I would have liked to have hearn from someone from the Kurdish or Turkish military, so that there could be a better understanding of what actually happened and the reason for Turkey's pull out of Iraq.

F. I thought that this article was good in explaining what had happened. The authors also provided some historical background, which would help the reader know what is going on.

I agree with with Yasemin in that there was a good sense of bias in the article and that those opinions affected the way the article was written. I also agree that since they were talking about the Turkish and the Kurds that they should've had some quotes from them in there. In that case we the readers can follow and understand the struggles occuring now between these two nations. The articel was written well with a lot of background knowledge which also helped with the understanding.
great job =]

Hi Yasemin, I liked the article you choose, and I agree with you and your ideas. Like you said this article was informative telling us what was occurring between Turkey and Iraq. I was not surprised the US got involved with this issue, but I never knew Turkey was our ally. Knowing this I can understand why the authors might lean towards Turkey on this issue. Even though the Turkish military has moved out of Iraq I doubt it would stop their fighting. Since you said that this fighting between the Iraqi Kurds and Turkish military has been going on for a while. I think it is just a matter of time before the battle begins again.

Hey Yasemin :].
I really loved the article you chose. I actually was a little lost before I read your historical background. Hah. I agree with you that the authors were leaning towards the Turkish side, and I believe that they should have tried to stay a little bit more neutral. This was a very well written response, and really taught me that other countries, besides that United States, are currently at war.
