U.S. and Britain at Odds Over Guantánamo Inmate
April 2, 2008

II. Summary:The U.S.’ Pentagon is charging Britain for the acts of Mr. Mohamed. He was training for months in the year 2001 for attacks that would happen in the United States. He was part of the group that was planning on the attack. He was also linked to other previous terrorists. The U.S. feels that they have a good chance and a good fight.

III. Reactions:
A) This article relates to the AP World theme of interaction among and within different societies. The interaction is between the U.S. and Britain. They are fighting, but not in the battlefields, but in law. Britain has to now deal with its consequences and they were caught in terrorism.
B) Obviously, since the Revolutionary War, Britain and the U.S. have not exactly liked each other. Britain is probably still trying to get back at Americans. It is a rivalry.
C) This was written by an American and is therefore favoring the side of the United States.
D) There is evidence that this author was written by an American because it only talks about what Britain was doing wrong and it never talks about what the U.S. was doing during the time that this man was at camp. The author never states that the U.S. never did anything such as maybe bother Britain.
E) I think it would be useful to hear from some officials that were also suspected of working at this training camp and involved in the plan. We heard from Mr. Mohamed who was at the camp, so it would help to hear from someone who was there with him to really see what went on.
F) Overall, I think that the U.S. is sending a good message by doing this. They are showing that if you try to terrorize America, and are caught, there will be great consequences. People will obviously have to try harder and maybe even think twice about it the next time.

Hi. I really liked your article. I was really surprised that the US would try and put Britain into a trial for something that they might not be involved in. This will severely weaken the US alliance with Britain. It would also be strange that Britain would work with a terrorist force against the US. Great job on your article.
