I. ‘Miracle baby’ is feted in India

II. This article talks about how a baby girl named Lali, who was born in a small village on the outskirts of Delhi, India, with a rare condition called Craniofacial Duplication. In simpler terms, she has two faces on her head! Her parents just want to spend time with her, but the infant is being revered like a prophet. Many of the people of their town think just that, in fact- that Lali is the reincarnation of a Hindu goddess. People from all over have been coming to Lali’s home to see her, and offer her family money. There’s even talk of a temple being built in the little girl’s honor.
A) The AP World theme this story relates to is the “cultural, religious, and intellectual developments”, because a deformed baby has essentially become a huge religious icon in her town.
B) There really isn’t much history to this article. A baby girl was born with a deformity, which was seen as a blessing by the people of her town. They’re Hindu, and believe that she is some sort of deity.
C) The author of the article is most likely Indian, meaning he is an ‘insider’ to these events.
D) At first, it seemed as if Mr. Majum agreed that this baby was, indeed, a blessing from Heaven, or something. But in allowing the parents to have a say in what they wanted for their daughter, he might agree with them that they should just act like a normal family. After all, if he didn’t agree, why would he publish it?
E) I would like to hear from a possible religious leader in the area, to confirm that the baby is indeed being seen as a reincarnated goddess or something.
F) I thought this was really cool, actually. A baby with two faces is defiantly something you don’t see everyday. And yet I can’t help but feel bad for the family of Lali. All they want is to live peacefully with their young daughter, but they keep getting constant attention from the media. It would be nice if they were left alone for a little bit.

This is very interesting, and I've never heard of anything like this before. I doubt that the baby is a miracle baby or deity, and that it's just a mutation from whatever the mother happened to have come in contact with. I think it's kind of sad actually, that the baby will have to grow up like that. There have to be countless medical problems that it will encounter, and not to mention the cruelness of kids when and if the baby ever goes to school when it's older. Hopefully he or she will be able to grow up happily and live a fulfilling life.
This is an interesting article. I agree with Nicole that it's probably some medical condition the baby was born with. I believe she is just a deformed baby and they should leave the family alone. I hope Lali won't suffer her whole life just because she has 2 faces. =[
Is that picture real???
