The Jewish Chronicle

Summary:
This article was confusing yet very interesting to read. This article was published by The Jewish Chronicle similar to Nicole’s. However this article was in regards to other country’s recognizing Palestine as a state. In particular Costa Rica. A few days ago Costa Rica declared that it was now recognizing the Palestinian State. The Jewish were angry about this action, because of the past and present of Israel and Palestine, and there attitudes toward each other’s country. The Israelites and the Palestinians have been in a state of constant warring and disagreements. The Jewish population for the most part disagrees with this decision because they fully support Israel and do not want any country to recognize Palestine. This act by Costa Rica has shocked many other countries especially Israel. Costa Rica did this to encourage peace talks between Israel and Palestine.

AP World Theme:
This topic relates to the impact of interactions between cultures or in this case two countries. If the warring between these two countries doesn’t stop it could seriously impact other parts of the world. Other countries could get involved similar to what Costa Rica is doing and countries could pick sides on which to support. Also for the protection of human lives. Innocent people are being killed because of all the bombing that is going on in these two countries.

Historical Background:

Because of the history between Palestine and Israel it is hard to access whether other countries should in fact recognize Palestine. Israel and Palestine have been fighting this battle for many years and there has been no change thus far. However, this person because he is Jewish has more insider information about this issue.

Point Of View:
This article was obviously written by a Jew, so there has to be some opinions added in. Also some of these statements may also be generalizations, because it cannot be possible that the entire Jewish population can be against creating Peace with Palestine and stopping this battle.

Missing Voice:
A person that would be helpful to hear from about this topic would be and Arab or Palestinian living in Palestine. Mostly because it would be interesting to see what the Palestinians thought about other countries choosing to recognize them as a state. Also to see if Palestine or any of its residents ever intend on making peace with Israel.

Reaction:
I thought that this was a very interesting article. Before this day I had no idea that Israel and Palestine were fighting. And I do not believe however that Costa Rica made a wise chose. Costa Rica only added to the resentment of Jews toward this subject, and Palestine never expressed interest to my knowledge, of wanting other countries to recognize them. I also feel the same way about this article that I do about Nicole’s article. I do not think that it is fair for a newspaper to print an article with only one religious view on a topic. Also those generalizations that Jews would be angered over this are not right either.

Hey Lex,
I agree alot toward your opinion. If Costa Rica recognizes Palestine as a state, soon others will follow that lead and choose sides. This could actually erupt into a full scale war with allies. Imagine world war three! However, as the reporter is a Jew and believes they will all be angry is a generalization and i also agree with you. But i do think that many Jews will be angered over this too. But isn't Israel already considered a state? I believe that it should not matter what other people think and they should not let words hurt them. Haha. Actually i seem to be supporting both sides of the argument. This article happens to be very debatable because we do not know yet what the impact of this is yet. Also, Costa Rica seems to be on both sides of this argument. If they tried to gain peace with talks, then why are they erasing their progress by adding yet another conflict? I think personally that they are just trying to make peace with both countries by supporting both of them. If they know what is good for them they should keep themselves out of other peoples buisenss.
Great Article!
