II. Summary
North Korea’s population is undergoing starvation. People are going through desperate measures just to survive. News say that 15 North Koreans crossed the border illegally just to find food. Those 15 people were executed. Even 20 million people in North Korea are facing starvation as grain prices are increasing.
III. Reactions
1) This article relates to the AP World History theme: Changes in functions and structures of states and in attitudes toward states and political. This is true because ever since this country was undergoing through this disaster, they punished those who bent the rules just to survive.
2) North Korea is facing harsher food problems each year. It gets worse and it needs to be repaired. There are other countries that face starvation. It’s hard to end this problem because food prices are rising annually.
3) The point of view of the article is from Good Friends, a group that brings resources to North Korea. They are a Buddhist group and they are the outsiders of this issue.
4) The article mentions that North Koreans did an illegal action by crossing the border. Instead, they should focus how to fix the crisis and how people deal with this situation in their daily lives.
5)A North Korean person is the point of view that’s missing in this article. I would like to hear from a North Korean resident to understand their outlook of this issue. I can understand more from a person who is dealing with the situation than the person who is reporting it.
6) When I read this article, I was extremely shocked. I knew that there were countries starving, but I didn’t realize that people can get killed for being desperate. I think that was unfair how people got killed just for trying to survive in their own country.

Thats's horrible that innocent people's lives were taken because they needed to find food in order to survive. When I went to the link for the article and read further, I saw that ~25% of North Korea's 20 mil population (5 mil people) suffer from a severe lack of food.
I am very shocked to hear something like this as well, but it is probably because we live in a society where we don't things like this every day. If Northern Korea isn't going to help its starving people to find food, then it is incredibly wrong to punish people for going to lands where they can get some. Trying to survive shouldn't be considered a crime, and that is exactly what the North Korean government is treating it as. This is very sad, sine either way it is a lose lose lose situation for the starving people of North Korea, for either they die of starvation, or they will be killed for trying to get food by leaving the country. The whole situation is a disgrace, and North Korea's government needs to find a way to help its people.
That's just terrible. It baffles me to think that innocent people are being killed simply because they are trying to find a meal. Instead of executing people that are just fighting to survive, North Korea should focus on trying to solve their hunger crisis.
I think that the starvation crisis is getting out of hand. The government should take charge in helping this problem, instead of executing people who are trying to save themselves. They should try to find an alternative food source, or try to grow more grains to lower the prices of them
It isn't fair that innocent people's lives were taken because they were trying to survive.
That these starving people were publicly executed for their "crime" of crossing the Chinese border makes the whole situation even sadder.
Hopefully, North Korea's goverment will resolve this important issue in the immediate future.
