2. Summary
A Mr. Wayne Cummings, president of the (JHTA), the Jamaica Hotel and Tourist Association, said that some craft traders have been complaining about unfair competition from other “more established entities”, so they are going to have a chance to get business from tourists. This means that they are allowed to sell their crafts on hotel property. This will be very good for most craft traders. Mr. Cummings also stated that craft traders would get maximum benefits.
3. Reaction
A. The AP theme for my article is creation, expansion and interaction of economic systems because this theme has to deal with trade and that’s what this article is about entirely. The industrialization of Jamaica is doing pretty well there are those craft traders who feel they are at a disadvantage when compared to other craft traders.
B. Here’s some history. The Jamaica Hotel and Tourist Association was established in 1961 and its main aim is to represent the interests of all of its members whether locally, regionally or internationally. The JHTA is the organization that represents Jamaican hotels, other visiting accommodations as well as mostly supplying the goods and services to the tourism industry.
C. This article was written by someone from the Jamaican Observer, which most likely means they are Jamaican. The gender of the writer isn’t known so they could be male or female. They also aren’t an insider to the topic stated in the article.
D. There may be some bias in this article. The writer doesn’t say how this change will negatively affect people like the craft traders who are doing well at this present time. It just says the positive aspects so they could be for this change in Jamaica.
E. The point of view from a craft trader would be good to hear whether it be from one who will gain from this change or one that will have a negative impact on. Either way you see how it affect the way the people will live later.
F. I see this as a very positive thing for many craft traders. It steps up the competition and helps those who couldn’t really get business before. This will probably help some of the people in the lower classes become slightly higher. Which means the amount of poor people would go down. If something like this went on in the U.S. I think that that would just be an amazing achievement.

Jill i really liked your article. I had no idea about how big businesses could ruin sales for the less established ones. Maybe this will help Jamaica to give some money back to more of its common citizens.

I agree with Alyssa. I really liked your article and i found it really intersting how these craft traders could sell on hotel property. I also liked the fact that it allows the lower classes or less capable of getting a job catch up with other people who may be in a higher class then them. I also agreed with you when you said that this would be an amazing achievement because i think it really does raise the competition and gives everyone an equal shot at being great.
