Citation: 3/28/08. The Jewish Chronicle. "Germans Take YouTube to court over hate films"
Summary: This article was about the video-sharing website YouTube and the potential for it to become a major hate website. Stephan Cramer, The secretary general of the Central Council of Jews in Germany filed a lawsuit in Hamburg last week on behalf of the council. This lawsuit was in reference to taking offensive hate- material off of YouTube. A spokesman for the Hamburg-based Google in Germany said a filter was in the works, but in the meantime the firm relied on its team of experts and on tips from the public. In one video cited, a photo of the late president of the Central Council, Paul Spiegal, was burned against a backround of swastikas, according to Mr. Kramer. Mr. Kramer is skeptical about Google's word to install filters. Google Germany spokesman Stefan Keuchel told reporters last week that the firm agreed that such material is an abuse of the public forum, and they have been seeking ways to block it. In the meantime, the spokesman encourages the public to report potentially illegal videos.
Reaction: This article relates to the theme, impact of technology, economics, and demography on people and the environment. I chose this theme because of the corruption that technology has on different parts of the world. Hate crimes are quite common here in America, but in Germany hate crimes are probably not as common and therefore more of a big deal when they occur.
history- with the invention of technology, there is a lot more room for hate and people voicing their opinions on the internet for everyone to see, and it could hurt a lot of people.
point of view- this is a jewish point of view looking on a fellow jewish hate crime so obviously this is going to be extremely biased but the evidence of the hate crime can't be disguised so the truth will out.
The point of view missing in the article was the person who commited the hate crime and put the video on YouTube. I would've liked to see that because it gives the person a chance to explain why and how they made the video.
I thought this article was the right thing to do, and to bring a hate crime to YouTube is good to enforce that there are rules when it comes to the internet.

hey nikki!
Great article! It was interesting reading about something that deals directly with situations that high schoolers like us deal with everyday, such as browsing the Internet and using YouTube. I'm glad that the lawsuit was filed. There has to be rules and regulations against what can and cannot be posted on the Internet. Some people think that the Internet is their own personal playground where what ever they post wont inter fear with their normal lives. Obviously that isn't true, and soon enough Internet post's having to do with hate will eventually influence others to join the revolt, which will lead to no good. Just a thought haha
