Hillary Clinton had claimed she was under sniper fire in Bosnia, during March of 1996, when she was visiting U.S. troops that were enforcing the 1995 Dayton Peace Agreement. The Clinton campaign said she was referring to an event on March 17, and the Senator of New York blamed her mistake on her sleep deprived condition. It is said that her records show that she made exaggerated stories during two of her campaigns, one while she was in Iowa, and the other in Texas. Later on, Hillary was making jokes of what was being said by saying, “I made a mistake. That happens. It proves I'm human, which, you know, for some people is a revelation."
Reactions
a) This article relates to the AP World History theme, Systems of social structure and gender structure, because the article is about a woman who could possibly become our new president, and we have never had a woman lead our nation before.
b) The historical background of this issue is how women have always been considered less powerful than men. This is the reason why many people do not want a woman to have power over our nation.
c) The point of view of this article is by a male who is a Washington Post staff writer.
d) This article is filled with bias, based on the fact that the author is male, because generally men dislike the idea of having a woman leader. The writer is continuously calling Hillary’s sniper fire comment an “embellishment.” The author is most likely trying to expose a mistake Clinton made so she has less of a chance of winning the election.
e) The point of view by another person in Hillary Clinton’s party on the day of the event in Bosnia would be helpful because they can explain weather Hillary is exaggerating or not. They would have experienced the same event that she did.
f) I feel that what this author is trying to do is wrong. Women should be considered equal to men. Just because women were not equal in the past does not mean they shouldn’t be equal now.
