Summary
There have been many tensions building between Palestine and Israel. This article talks about where those tensions broke out, which was in a school in the library where there was a shooting. Seven children were killed and ten wounded. The attack was claimed responsible on the Martyrs of Imad Mughniyeh and Gaza. The attack was held a day after Condoleezza Rice persuaded the president of Palestine to accept peace with Israel. There was said to be one or two terrorists attacking that day. Jerusalem has been a popular target for the Palestinians. It is said that this will not be the last attack. That statement was true when soon after an Israeli army jeep was blown up and a soldier killed.
Background
The tensions between Israel and Palestine are nothing new. These tensions originated from a Biblical Promised land which led to a movement that led to the Jewish homeland in Palestine. There was then a large population of Jews that moved to this Holy Land which began to cause tensions with Palestine. Arab leader later revolted against the Ottoman Empire, and then Britain supported the establishment of an independent Arab nation. Since then Israel and Palestine have been butting heads.
This article related to the AP Theme of the interaction between two societies. It can be clearly seen that the relationship between Palestine and Israel are not well. Because of this bad relationship with each other, it causes many problems since they are neighboring communities. These issues could eventually lead to an even bigger incident which could cost the lives of many. The communication and relationship between two near by communities are very important, and one can see the result of a bad relationship.
The author of this article, Kevin Frayer is apart of the associated press which could mean that he can just tell it like it is because I don’t think that he has much connection with these people. The Associated Press is an information system used to tell people about what is happening in the world today. So knowing that, one can conclude that Kevin doesn’t have any relation to that area.
Reaction
The title of this article, At Least 7 Dead in Attack on Jerusalem School caught my eye because it reminded me of the Columbine attack a few years ago. This article stated that there have been tensions between Palestine and Israel and some fighting had occurred between the both of them. I was surprised to read that an Israeli praised it and said that it wouldn’t be the last. This article included many witnesses of the incident and details on the actual event which I thought helped me picture what exactly happened in my mind. I would’ve liked to hear from outside countries and their view on the tensions that have been occurring between both of them just to see how severe these tensions really are. From the author’s descriptions I was able to relate or connect a little bit with this incident because I am a student and I couldn’t even imagine something as horrific as this happening to me while I was in the library at school. I am not very surprised on the violence going on in this area. There have been many dangerous things happening there for years, and I can’t imagine how those families live like that, dealing with their son or daughter’s death. This wasn’t the only attempt on harming Jerusalem either, there have been suicide bombing on buses and I’m assuming many more. Who would want to go back to school after something like that?

I really, really liked this article that noelle posted and like her, as soon as i read this i was reminded of Columbine as well. What happens when the Palestine vs. Israeli conflict goes as far as to attack children? Hurting the innocent,(no matter what religion) is a wrong thing to do. When people have to stoop so low as to attack a school, there is definetly something wrong going on in the world.
To see things like this happen sickens me. I just made a blog on a similar article. When you start to kill children you really show your true stripes. These terrorists will do anything for the public eye, and to be feared by all. If Israel continues to stand up to these attacks, and continues to be as resilient as it has been, I see a peaceful future.
